The new home of the San Diego Padres, Petco Park, has helped revive the old warehouse district into one of Downtown's most vibrant residential neighborhoods. South of Market Street from the Gaslamp Quarter to Park Blvd, this area boasts close proximity to the trolley and bay, and lays claim to quite possibly the oldest bar in the city, once frequented by Wyatt Earp and company. A soon-to-be completed pedestrian bridge spanning Harbor Drive will be the last segment of the "Park to Bay" link, a public-improvement project that aims to provide an aesthetically pleasing, landscaped promenade along the route from Balboa Park to San Diego Bay. Still, Petco Park is the most valuable treasure among these gems. On non-gamedays, the public is always welcome at the Park at the Park, a grassy field where families can relax, picnic, enjoy the playground, and play ball on the little league diamond. Some properties in the nearby high-rises are truly unique, offering views into the stadium and onto the field. |
